MAS HINO
Born in Japan, raised in America.
The identity of a luthier/bass and guitar builder living as a Japan-US hybrid.
"I used to think, 'I'm the best, man.' But perhaps that mindset isn't always appropriate."
"I aim to create a masterpiece that is uniquely mine, preserving its history for posterity in books and records. Immersed in the writings of Antonio Stradivari, the renowned violin maker, I draw inspiration to craft something that will resonate with people even two centuries from now. My aspiration is for future generations to experience a profound connection when they encounter the instruments I have created or learn about their rich historical background and significance."
"In guitar and bass production, the beauty of the instrument's design alone does not guarantee depth in sound. The guitars and basses crafted by Hino embody his distinct sound signature. They possess a richness and character that cannot be replicated by factory-made products."
"Through my period of training, I've come to recognize the invaluable lessons nurtured during that time. Even when faced with uncertainty in the present moment, the ongoing process of reflection and repetition allows for deeper insights to emerge. This ability to see things more clearly is a direct result of the trial and error endured during my years of training. In my younger years, perhaps in my 20s and even into my 30s, I harbored a mindset of invincibility, believing I was the best. However, I've since realized the importance of humility and the danger of such overconfidence."
